Bluffton drops 3-2 decision to Anderson

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Anderson on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022. AU improved to 4-6-2 with its first win the Heartland Conference (1-3), while Bluffton fell to 4-5-3 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC. 

A Sam Rowlinson corner kick curled into the net in minute 18, giving the Ravens a lead they would hold for nearly 40 minutes until back-to-back tallies by the home team separated by fewer than 40 seconds. Junior Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) converted a penalty kick at the 55:06 mark and a Maximilian Pierce (Middletown/Lebanon) free kick from just past midfield connected with Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) 37 seconds later for a 2-1 Bluffton advantage.

The visitors bounced right back five minutes later with a Jordan Bossman net finder before Drew Vaughn's penalty kick with less than nine minutes to play sent the Ravens back to Indiana with a 3-2 victory.

Anderson finished with a 23-18 advantage in shots, including a 15-5 spread on frame. The Ravens forced nine of 13 corner kicks and they were called for two more fouls (8-6).

Clark led the way with five shots and Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) chipped in with three. Angel Velasco-Urbina (Louisville, Ky./Henry Clay) came up with a dozen saves on Saturday afternoon.

Bluffton heads to Richmond, Ind., for a 3:30 matchup with Earlham College on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
