In his first full year at the helm, the program saw improvements across the board and numerous program records broken. Coach Elvert’s first recruiting class featured twenty-one student athletes and served as a catalyst for the program that posted its best record in the past decade. This past season witnessed the youthful squad triple their win total from 2018, while experiencing one of the strongest turnarounds in program history.

Heading into the 2019 campaign, underclassmen were responsible for 70 percent of the roster, with 20 first-years seeing first team minutes and eight being regularly called upon in the starting eleven. Even though the team fell short of its first winning season in 26 years, the Bluffton Beavers finished in the Top 50 of the NCAA for points during the regular season. The team broke the record for assists in a season with 39 while tying the record for goals in a season with 44. The rebuilding program only graduates one senior and returns with high expectations for 2020 season that will feature four-year seniors for the first time since 2017.

In two seasons with the program, Coach Elvert has mentored 11 academic all-conference students and four all-conference athletes including sophomore Dalton Taynor who currently sits in the top ten of multiple program categories. Taynor has posted 43 points through two seasons with the program and was the first player in five years to receive All-Ohio honors along with being named second team all-conference for his performances during the 2019 season.

Elvert returned to Bluffton after serving as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Ohio Northern University. The two years prior, he served as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Bluffton and briefly led the team as the interim head coach. In both assistant roles, he gained significant experience in recruiting, day-to-day operations and player training.

As a Naperville, Ill. native, Elvert played collegiately at Division III Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. During his tenure as a goalkeeper with the program, the team won four conference championships and made four NCAA Tournament appearances. In those three appearances, they made two runs to the “Final Four” and one trip the “Sweet 16”.

Elvert earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Loras College in 2015 and a Master of Business Administration from Bluffton University in 2017. He took over for James Kusak who served as head coach for two years and is now on staff with the University of Louisville Men’s Soccer program.
