NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Freshman Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton) put an exclamation point on his first season at Bluffton when he established a new lifetime best at the North Central College Gregory Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 20, 2021. He went 14.88 in the 110 meter hurdles which ranks 2nd all-time at Bluffton University.

The 14.88 places Gist 38th in the nation for all of Division III with the 10th best time for a freshman. He took .07 off his previous best of 14.95 a week ago at Hillsdale College.

Gist had a phenomenal freshman campaign at Bluffton despite missing much of the outdoor season. He set the school record in the 60 meter hurdles (indoor) and collected a pair of Heartland Conference championships (60 meter hurdles indoor & long jump outdoor). Gist was second in the conference for the outdoor 110 meter hurdles and third in the HCAC for the indoor long jump and the 4 X 200 meter indoor relay.

He will return to the Beavers with three top-5 marks in Bluffton Track and Field history: (1st - 60 hurdles indoor, 2nd - 110 hurdles outdoor,  5th - long jump outdoor)
