Gist advances to NCAA finals in 110 hurdles

ROCHESTER, NY - It was a monumental day for Bluffton University Track and Field thanks to an incredible performance from Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton) at the NCAA Nationals on Friday, May 26, 2023. Gist was up for the challenge, placing 8th in the prelims while securing a coveted spot in the finals with a time of 14.49 in the 110-meter hurdles!

It marks the third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Nationals for the junior who has sandwiched two straight outdoor appearances around a 60-meter qualification at the indoor nationals in March!

First-year Head Coach Ben Markison had this to say about Gist. "Des got it done today. We knew it needed to be quick and he was able to string together his 4th fastest time. I'm excited for Saturday because I can legitimately see him being anywhere between 1st and 8th, it solely depends on how clean his race is. The hard part is over, now he just needs to have fun and run fast."

With Bluffton's first All-American honor since Gabe Makin in 2018 cemented, Gist will run one more race this season, this time for a national championship! The finals for the 110-meter hurdles are slated for 1:50 PM on Saturday, May 27, at the campus of St. John Fisher. Follow the Live Results HERE and the Live Video HERE.
