FINDLAY, Ohio- On Friday, the Beavers traveled to Findlay for their last regular season indoor track and field competition of the 2024 season. Many of the runners did not run their typical events so that they would be more rested and ready to go at next week's HCAC Championship competition!

The field events were first to kick off earlier in the day. Starting it right by setting a PR in the men's shot put was freshman Kenny Johnson (Thompson Station, Tenn./Independence), throwing an impressive mark of 11.75 meters!

The running events started later in the afternoon. Coming in 6th place in the women's mile with an impressive time of 5:48 was junior Basil Gates (Galion)! Following Gates and setting a season best was senior Jenía Freewalt (Delphos/St. John's), racing her last indoor mile and finishing a strong race in 7th place with a time of 6:10!

Setting a quick new PR in the men's mile was junior Braeden Horn (Galion), finishing in 4th place overall with a time of 4:56! Right on his tail was freshman Chandler McCafferty (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem), finishing in 5th with a time of 4:57.

Junior Aiden Brien (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) had an excellent performance in the men's 800 meters, finishing with a new PR of 2:14!

"This was a lighter week for the team ahead of conference," said Connor Gulick, who works primarily with the distance athletes, "But we had a lot of good performances showing that we are in shape and ready to roll for conference!"

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, senior Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton) took gold, winning the race and setting a new school record and personal record of 8.14 seconds! This quick time currently places him at 18th in the nation!

"Outside of that, we had a lot of good performances!" said Head Coach Ben Markison. "The main goal for the Findlay meet was to keep to only one event and to run fast. We accomplished that goal and I feel like we're ready to go for conference this coming weekend."

Next up, the Beavers will travel to Rose-Hulman for the 2024 HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships that will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24!
