BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team (1-0) defeated Lake Erie College 3-2 on September 8 to open the 2005 season.
Freshman Elyse Burckhart (Telford Pa./Sauderton) knocked in the difference, her second goal of the game, off of an assist from Allison White (Lima/Shawnee) with ten seconds to play to win the contest. Burckhart opened the scoring for the Beavers in the first half with an assist from Amy Dahl (Perrysville/Loudonville) 12 minutes into the game. With 21:28 to play in the first half Chantel Mangrum (Jackson, Tn./Jackson Christian) expanded the lead off of an assist from Kenzey Meyer (Hilliard/Hilliard-Darby).
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Bloom (Tiffin/Calvert) made 10 saves in the contest. For the game Lake Erie outshot Bluffton 16-13.
The Beavers will be back in action on Sept. 10 when they host Bethel College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
