Spartans dominate Bluffton in 6-0 shutout

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team traveled to Manchester College on a cold and rainy Wednesday, October 10, 2007, and suffered its worst defeat of the season, a 6-0 setback to the Spartans. Manchester upped its record to 4-8-2 overall and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference while the Beavers fell to 2-8-1 with a 1-4 mark in the HCAC.

The match was scoreless throughout much of the first half until PAIGE KOOMLER, who netted four goals in the contest, found the back of the net in minute 29. She scored three minutes later and made it a hat trick with five minutes left in the opening stanza as the Spartans took a comfortable 3-0 lead to the break.

Koomler continued her assault on the visitors when she hit paydirt early in the second half. KATIE DAVIS and KALI LAUZON tacked on scores in the final four minutes to give Manchester a stunning 6-0 shutout over the Beavers.

For the match, the Spartans took only 13 shots, but nine were on target compared to just three attempts for the visitors. There were 11 fouls called in the contest, six of which went against the home team.

In addition to the four-goal performance by Koomler, ERIN MCCOMAS chipped in with three assists. LAURA NIETERT and ALLISON MOORE added one assist each.

Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when it hosts Rochester College. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m.
