BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team made a first half score hold up as the Beavers improved to 3-8-1 with a 1-0 victory over Rochester College on a surprisingly chilly Saturday, October 13, 2007. The visiting Warriors did not go quietly, but Bluffton received a shutout performance in goal from sophomore SAMANTHA WILLIAMS (Toledo/Bowsher) who picked up four saves in the win.

Rochester opened the contest by controlling the ball and forcing a Williams save when KRYSTN FREEMAN ripped a shot one minute into the match. The Beavers turned the tide as MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) freed herself for a pair of shots and NICOLE FREY(Wauseon/Wauseon) missed wide left early in the first half.

At the 28:26 mark, Forquer used a feed from junior defender CHANTEL MANGRUM (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian) to net what turned out to be the game-winning score.

Freeman had the Warriors crowd on their feet as her shot from the top of the box hit the crossbar with the first half buzzer blaring.

Bluffton's MARY CONRAD (Millersburg/West Holmes), Meghan Forquer and ALLISON WHITE(Lima/Shawnee) all had good looks at the goal early in the second stanza, but each attempt went wide as the Beavers maintained their slim 1-0 lead.

Shortly after entering the field in the second period, freshman PAIGE CORRESSEL(Wauseon/Wauseon) forced a JENNIFER STAMEVSKI save on her shot from the box. Frey's header in minute 79 was on target as Stamevski picked up her fourth save in the contest.

SARAH KIRN put a shot on goal with four minutes to play, but Williams came up with the big save and the Beavers held on for their third victory of the year and second in their last three matches.

The Beavers piled up 15 shots, five on goal, compared to nine for the Warriors. Bluffton forced seven corner kicks, four more than the visitors who racked up 12 fouls. The Beavers were whistled for eight infractions during the contest. Forquer led the Beavers with a team-high six shots in the victory. Conrad, White and Frey chipped in with two shots apiece.

Bluffton returns to the pitch when it travels to Franciscan University on Monday, Oct. 15. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.
