Beavers assist with flood damage in Ottawa

April 22, 2008

Amidst the grey, rainy spring weather on Saturday, April 12, the Bluffton University soccer teams put their backs and sweat into assisting those affected by the floods of the past year.

While in Ottawa the teams split into smaller groups, all completing different tasks. One group spent the day in a house that was to be demolished, gathering all that could be recycled. Another group spent the day tearing down a garage - nail by nail - so that the wood could be recycled and used in another location. Just around the block, members of the women's team worked together to insulate a crawl space under a house. They then moved to a different location where they picked up sticks and other yard debris before heading inside to strip wallpaper and paint. At lunchtime the soccer teams were also blessed with a delicious carry-in dinner at the Ottawa Presbyterian church. Here we gathered with another volunteer group from Baldwin Wallace College and a number of other local individuals who were giving their time.

Overall this was a very successful day of work for the athletes and coaches who were able to participate in this effort for the flood victims of Ottawa. Thanks again for your support!
