Bluffton and Rochester battle to a 3-3 draw

Sept. 13, 2008

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team traveled to Rochester, Mich., and went toe-to-toe with the Warriors for 90 minutes on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. Both teams scored in the final three minutes to preserve a 3-3 tie. The contest was played indoors so it was not affected by the rains that pelted much of Michigan. Following the tie, Bluffton now stands at 1-2-1 on the season.

Rochester took the early 1-0 lead when the Warriors knocked in a goal less than 15 minutes into the match. Seven minutes later Bluffton answered when freshman ALEX JESS (Piqua/Piqua) took a pass from junior MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) and buried her first collegiate goal.

With 11 minutes to play in the opening frame, Forquer was on the receiving end of a nice feed from senior standout ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee). Her second goal of the season and 10th of her career put the Beavers on top 2-1 at the break.

The Warriors knotted the match in minute 66 and the score remained deadlocked for the next 21 minutes until some late fireworks made the final score 3-3. Senior ELYSE BURCKHART(Telford, Penn./Souderton) found Alex Jess for her second score in the contest with three minutes on the clock, but Rochester retaliated less than a minute later to force the Beavers' first tie of the 2008 campaign, 3-3.

Due to the threat of rain the contest was moved to an indoor facility and time constraints kept Bluffton and Rochester from attempting to break the tie in an extra session.

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Trine University (formerly Tri-State in Angola, Ind.) to face the Thunder. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
