Beavers pitch 3-0 shutout at Thiel

Sept. 20, 2008

THIEL, Penn. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team broke a four-match winless streak with a 3-0 win at Thiel College on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008. The Beavers improved to 2-3-1 on the season while the Tomcats remain winless at 0-5-2 this year.

Freshman ALEX JESS (Piqua/Piqua), who has netted four goals since standout freshman KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) has been sidelined, gave the Beavers all they would need when she found the back of the net in minute 37 of the first half. She was on the receiving end of an assist from senior ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee). It was White's third assist of the young season.

With just one minute left to play in the opening stanza, Jess rattled in her second score of the game which made it 2-0 at the break. This time the feed came from the other White. Freshman CATIE WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) picked up her first assist of the season on the Jess goal.

With 20 minutes to play, sophomore NICOLE FREY (Wauseon/Wauseon) found Allison White and her shot from 12 yards out was perfect, sealing the 3-0 shutout of the Tomcats with her second goal of the 2008 campaign.

Allison White and MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) paced the Beavers with six and five shots, respectively. Bluffton pounded 15 shots, including nine on target, to just six attempts by the home squad. The Beavers forced seven corner kicks, five more than Thiel, and Bluffton was whistled for 10 infractions, nine more than the Tomcats. Freshman keeper KATY WISBY(Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) picked up two saves while recording her first collegiate shutout.

Bluffton returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when the Beavers welcome Oberlin College to the Sears Complex. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
