BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer came up short early in the second overtime, losing a heartbreaker to Oberlin on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. The Beavers dropped to 2-4-1 while the Yeowomen improved to 3-4-1 for the 2008 campaign.

Freshman standout KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale), who sat out the last three matches due to injury, found the back of the net at the 38:18 mark when she went around the Oberlin keeper following a slick feed from sophomore NICOLE FREY (Wauseon/Wauseon).

The Yeowomen took control during the first 15 minutes of the second half with goals from LOIS IMMERMAN and AMELIA JARVINEN. Intensity grew between the two teams as fouls were called and one yellow card was issued.

Using a free kick at the top of the box with less than 12 minutes to play in regulation, Lewis once again found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2, sending the contest into extra time.

Four and a half minutes into the second overtime, Oberlin broke the tie and ended the match with a header from Lois Immerman, giving the Yeowomen a 3-2 win over the Beavers.

Kourtney Lewis scored both goals for the match, bringing her season total to five. ALEX JESS(Piqua/Piqua) and ELYSE BURCKHART (Telford, Pa./Souderton) sparked the Bluffton offense with two shots each. Goal keeper KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) was busy, recording 15 saves in the loss.

Oberlin took 34 shots and limited Bluffton to only 13 for the contest. The Beavers forced two corner kicks in the match and had nine fouls, compared to only five infractions for the Yeowomen.

The Beavers will travel to Mt. St. Joseph for their 2008 Heartland Conference opener on Saturday, September 27. The contest is slated to start at 12 PM.
