Beavers drop HCAC lidlifter at MSJ, 2-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team was defeated by Mt. St. Joseph in their first HCAC matchup of the 2008 season on Saturday, September 27. The Beavers dropped to 2-5-1 on the year and 0-1 in the HCAC, while the Lions improved to 5-3-1 and 1-0 for the 2008 season.

Lions' player BETH SCHUERMANN found the back of the net 24:45 into the first half, with assists from teammates JESSICA SMITH AND LAURA MUND.

The Beavers turned up the pressure on the home team during the second stanza, but they were unable to push it across the goal line to knot the match. With less than three minutes left, Mt. St. Joseph sealed the deal with a goal from ASHLEY MAYNARD off an assist from Schuermann to give the Lions the 2-0 shutout win over the Beavers.

Freshman ALEX JESS (Piqua/Piqua) had the only two Bluffton shots in the matchup. KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) picked up 13 saves in the loss.

Mt. St. Joseph had 24 shots and limited Bluffton to only two for the game. The Lions were whistled for eight infractions, compared to just six for the Beavers. Mt. St. Joseph also forced all three corner kicks on the day.

The Beavers will travel to face HCAC rival Anderson University on Saturday, October 4, 2008. The match is slated to start at 11 AM.
