BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team could never make up the early 1-0 deficit as Pikeville claimed the win on Monday, October 6, 2008. The Beavers fell to 3-6-1 on the season, while the Bears improved to 6-3 on the year.

Just 12:52 into the first half, a BRIGETTE SNYDER shot from deep found the back of the net for what turned out to be the game-winner. The Beavers pelted Pikeville with 17 shots, including five on target and many from point blank range, but the visitors kept Bluffton off the scoreboard as they went to the break with a 1-0 lead.

Bluffton continued to control the action early in the second stanza, but Pikeville's BECKY DAVENPORT did the job in goal, picking up nine saves while pitching a shutout for the Bears. Pikeville turned up the offensive pressure late in the contest and came away with the 1-0 shutout over the Beavers.

Junior MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) paced the Beavers with seven shots. Senior ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee) and freshman ALEX JESS (Piqua/Piqua) each had five shots in the match with White placing four on frame. Freshman CATIE WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) chipped in with four shots off the bench. KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) snatched six saves for Bluffton.

Bluffton generated 27 shots, while Pikeville only put up 10 for the contest. The Beavers were called for only one foul, compared to nine for the Bears. Pikeville forced all four corner kicks in the match.

Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, October 11, 2008, when the Beavers host HCAC rival Rose-Hulman. The contest is slated to start at 11 AM.
