RHIT dominates Bluffton in 6-0 shutout

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team struggled against HCAC rival Rose-Hulman on Saturday, October 11, 2008. With the 6-0 loss, the Beavers fell to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in the HCAC, while the Fightin' Engineers improved to 2-2 in the HCAC and 7-5 overall.

Just over five minutes into the first half, Rose-Hulman's JEN LYMAN capitalized on a MOLLY RICHARDSON pass to put the Engineers up 1-0. At the 28:42 mark, ANNMARIE STANLEYfound the back of the net with another goal for Rose-Hulman. Less than two minutes later, Lyman returned the favor and set up Richardson for a header, giving the Engineers the 3-0 lead over the Beavers at halftime.

Starting the second half, a header from KENDRA ALBERS followed by an ELI BACA score increased the lead to 5-0 over the Beavers. The sixth and final goal of the match came from Lyman as she scorched the back of the net at the 59:22 mark.

Freshmen LYNDSAY NELSON (St. Mary's/St. Mary's) and ALEX JESS (Piqua/Piqua) led the Beavers with two shots each. KATIE WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) finished with seven saves in the contest.

Bluffton forced five corner kicks in the match and limited Rose-Hulman to just three. The Engineers pounded 21 shots, including 13 on frame, compared to only seven for the Beavers. Both teams were whistled for seven infractions.

Bluffton returns to action on Wednesday, October 15, when the Beavers travel to face long-time rival Defiance College. Kickoff is slated for 4 PM.
