BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team lost 3-0 to HCAC foe Manchester on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. With the loss, the Beavers dropped to 5-8-1 on the season and 3-3 in the HCAC, while the Spartans improved to 2-3 in the HCAC and 6-9 overall.

Less than 10 minutes into the match, Spartan MARIE HUMPOLICK connected with PAIGE KOOMLER for the first goal of the afternoon. Manchester used its possession-oriented offense to keep the Beavers from any serious looks at the goal as the Spartans took advantage of the wind to carry their 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, ALLISON MOORE capitalized on a JULIA PIERCE feed at the 54:09 minute mark. Two minutes later, Koomler once again hit paydirt for the ninth time this season, giving Manchester the 3-0 shutout over Bluffton.

ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee) and CATIE WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) led the Beavers' offense with three and two shots, respectively. KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll), who was busy all afternoon, picked up 16 saves in the contest.

Manchester produced 28 shots, compared to only nine for Bluffton. The Spartans forced four corner kicks and held the Beavers to just two. Bluffton was whistled for five infractions, while Manchester was called for nine fouls.

Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, October 25, when the Beavers travel to face HCAC rival Hanover College. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
