HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team hit paydirt twice in each period for a 4-2 victory over Huntington University on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. Despite being outshot by a 2-1 margin on the afternoon, the Beavers improved to 3-1 on the season. The 3-1 start marks the best record for a Bluffton women's soccer team since the 1995 squad opened its campaign 4-1.

Sophomore CATIE WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) put the Beavers on the scoreboard early with her score in minute 14. It was White's second goal of the season. Less than 15 minutes later, freshman MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) made it 2-0 when she collected a nice feed from senior MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) and hit it between the posts.

Bluffton continued playing shutout soccer until BRITTANY HARTMAN got free at the 62:45 mark, cutting the deficit in half. Sophomore standout KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale), who led the Beavers in scoring a season ago despite being limited to five contests due to injury, salted it away with a pair of scores just over two minutes apart and with less than 12 minutes to play.

The home team picked up a meaningless score with three minutes on the scoreboard, but Bluffton continued to impress as it is just one win from tying the 1995 squad for the best start in Beaver women's soccer history.

Huntington fired 21 shots in the contest, 10 more than the Beavers. Both teams finished with three corner kicks while Huntington was whistled for nine fouls, compared to just five for the visitors.

Lewis led Bluffton with three shots, all on frame. Forquer, White and Moore all chipped in with two shots. MOLLY MARTIN (Brookville) continued her superb play in goal, tallying 11 saves in Bluffton's 4-2 victory. Moore and Forquer added assists for Bluffton.

The Beavers return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they travel to face Cincinnati Christian University. The contest is slated to start at 7 p.m.
