Beavers improve to 4-2 with 3-0 shutout of Thiel

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team was even with Thiel College at half. The second half proved promising as the Beavers put in three goals to seal the win over Thiel 3-0 on September 19, 2009. The Beavers now stand 4-2 on the season while Thiel dropped to 2-5-1.

Both teams struggled to put much offense together in the first period. The Beavers, however, came out strong in the second period and knocked three goals in. The Beavers manhandled Thiel, outshooting the Tomcats by a 31-2 margin. The three goals were all put together at the start of the second period. Bluffton took advantage of an own goal at 52:49, before another quick score put in by KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) at 53:40. The Beavers did not waste any time putting another goal in as it was a shot by MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) just two minutes later that finished off the scoring for the match.
 
Lewis led the Beavers with 10 shots, six on frame. Following close behind were MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams), KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll), and Forquer all with three more shots on goal. The rest of the team also chipped in to put the total shots on goal at 20. Moore and Lewis both added assists for the home squad.
 
Freshman keeper MOLLY MARTIN (Brookville) finished with one save in 45 minutes of action. The Beavers forced seven corner kicks during the match, while Thiel only managed one. The Beavers also committed more fouls, having a total of nine compared to Thiel's five infractions.

The Beavers return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they host Trine at Sears Field. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
