Beavers dominate Grace Bible 10-0 in home opener

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team defeated Grace Bible College 10-0 on Saturday, September 4, 2010. The win moves Bluffton's record to 1-1, while Grace Bible fell to 0-2.

During the fifth minute of play, junior forward Kourtney Lewis (Arlington/Riverdale) scored the first goal of the game off of a feed from Jordan Childress (Swanton). This was the first goal of the season for both the Beavers and for Lewis. Less than two minutes later, Lewis scored the second goal of the game with the assist coming from freshman midfielder Megan Moreo (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson).
 
In the 17th minute of play, Moreo netted goal number three. It was the first goal of Moreo's collegiate career. Seven minutes later the Beavers scored goal number four, which came from sophomore Kirsten Egts (Rawson/Cory-Rawson). This was the last goal of the first half, leaving the Beavers with a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.
 
Less than a minute into the second half of the game, Moreo got down to business with goal number five of the day for the Beavers. In the ninth minute of the second half, junior midfielder Caitlin White (Lima/Central Catholic) buried her first goal of the season, giving the Beavers a 6-0 lead. White was assisted by Kourtney Lewis.
 
The seventh goal for the Beavers was scored by junior midfielder Lyndsay Nelson, 20 minutes into the second stanza. Nelson was aided by freshman Jessica Ramirez (Archbold). Five minutes later freshman Elizabeth Wilson (Circleville) added to the score with an unassisted goal, making it 8-0.
 
Freshman Jane Virdin (Lima/Shawnee) entered the game and scored goal number nine for the Beavers. Virdin was assisted by fellow freshman Megan Moreo. The final goal of the game was made by freshman Elizabeth Webb (Ashland) who was assisted by freshman Karli Graybill (Goshen, Ind/Bethany Christian).
 
Bluffton took an astounding 61 shots, placing 29 on target. The Beavers forced eight corner kicks during the match, while both teams committed three fouls.
 
The Bluffton women continue their season in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, against Eastern Mennonite University on Friday, Sept., 10. Then on Saturday, September 11, the Beavers play Goshen College as part of the Menno Soccer Classic.
