EMU opens Menno Classic with 1-0 win over Bluffton

September 10, 2010

LANSDALE, Penn. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team slipped to 1-2 on the season following a 1-0 setback to Eastern Mennonite University on September 10, 2010. The contest, held at Christopher Dock High School, tipped off the Menno Soccer Classic which will also feature Goshen College.

The Beavers put together nine shots, including six on frame, but EMU pounded the net with 20 shots, 12 on target. It was a Melissa Miller shot at the 63:04 mark, however, that proved to be the difference. She collected a Jordan Barkus feed and found the net for the only score in the match.

Kourtney Lewis (Arlington/Riverdale), Maddie Moore (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) and Jane Virdin (Lima/Shawnee) all finished with two shots on goal, while freshman goalkeeper Maggie Armstrong (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) collected a season-high 11 saves.

The Royals forced six corner kicks, three more than the Beavers, while Bluffton was whistled for six fouls.

The Bluffton University women will now face Goshen College on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. The match with the Maple Leafs is also slated to be played at Christopher Dock High School.
