Oberlin nets three second-half goals for 3-2 win over Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team fell to Oberlin College 3-2 on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. The loss dropped Bluffton's record to 3-6, while Oberlin improved to 2-8 overall. All six of Bluffton's setbacks have been by a single score.

The Beavers put up a strong fight against the Yeowomen, scoring the first goal of the match shortly before the end of the opening half despite being outshot by the visitors 11-3 during the first 45 minutes of action. With less than five minutes to go in the first half, freshman JESSICA RAMIREZ (Archbold) put one in the back of the net with the assist coming from fellow freshman MEGAN MOREO (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson).
 
Just over a minute into the second half Oberlin answered, tying the game at one apiece. 20 minutes later the Beavers took a short-term lead when freshman defender AIMEE WHITMER(Grand Rapids/Otsego) hammered one past the Oberlin keeper off of a free kick near midfield. Two minutes later Oberlin once again answered the Beavers' goal with a RYANN MCCHESNEYtally at the 67:29 mark. With less than twelve minutes left in the match, CHARLOTTE ISTELmade it 3-2 on her second goal of the season.
 
Bluffton University finished with just six total shots (Oberlin tallied 20). Freshman goalkeeper MAGGIE ARMSTRONG (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) came up with 13 saves, making her total 58 for the season. The Beavers committed three more fouls than Oberlin (7-4), while the Yeowomen forced five corner kicks in the match compared to one for the home team.
 
The Bluffton women continue their season at home against Transylvania University on Saturday, October 2. The Heartland Conference contest is slated to start at 1 p.m.
