BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team fell to Earlham College by a 3-1 count on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. The loss dropped the Beavers' record to 3-8 overall with a 0-3 mark in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham jumped to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC.

The first half proved to be the difference in the contest. Earlham managed to put in two goals in the first stanza, while Bluffton did not find the back of the net. The goals, which both came from well outside the box, were tallied by CATE SIMMERMAKER and JOY DOUCETTE respectively.

The Beavers made it 2-1 with a goal from freshman AIMEE WHITMER (Grand Rapids/Otsego) at the 49:33 mark. Whitmer's beautiful free kick from just past midfield cut the deficit in half, but the Quakers responded 17 seconds later with a goal of their own from KARMAN DUCHON. Earlham continued to control the action as they stopped the Beavers 3-1 at the end of the 90 minutes.

Bluffton put up 12 shots, but the Quakers managed 22 of their own. Both teams forced four corner kicks in the game. The Beavers were called for 12 infractions, while Earlham finished with seven.

The Beaver offense was led by KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) with three shots, one on frame. Following closely were Whitmer and MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./S. Adams) who each added two of their own with one on frame. Freshman goalkeeper MAGGIE ARMSTRONG (Vevay, Ind. /Switzerland County) recorded seven saves and stonewalled two penalty kicks in the loss.

The Bluffton women will travel to Anderson University on Saturday, October 9, to face the Ravens in another HCAC battle. The contest is scheduled to begin at 12 P.M.
