Beavers continue shutout streak with 2-0 win at RHIT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team swept away the Fighting Engineers 2-0 on Saturday, October 23, 2010. With their fifth consecutive shut-out the Beavers have not given up a goal for 510 minutes and 10 seconds, establishing a new school record in the process. The Bluffton women have also added another record to their list of accomplishments, posting the most Heartland Conference wins ever in a season with two matches yet to play. The Beavers are now 7-8-1 overall, with an HCAC mark of 4-3. RHIT dropped to 6-11 and 3-4 in the conference.

After a scoreless first half, Bluffton freshman JESSICA RAMIREZ (Archbold) scorched the back of the net five minutes into the second period. ELIZABETH WILSON (Circleville) connected with teammate MEGAN MOREO (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson) in the 64th minute to give Bluffton the 2-0 conference victory over Rose-Hulman.
 
Bluffton University generated 20 shots (13 on target), while the home team tallied 10 (eight on frame). The Beavers forced five corner kicks and limited RHIT to just one, while both teams were whistled for 12 fouls.
 
Wilson led the Bluffton offense with five shots, including two on frame. KOURTNEY LEWIS(Arlington/Riverdale) and AIMEE WHITMER (Grand Rapids/Otsego) produced four shots each in the contest. MAGGIE ARMSTRONG (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) picked up the win with eight saves.
 
The Bluffton women will host Defiance College in a critical HCAC battle on Tuesday, October 26. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
