Hanover makes early goal stand up in 1-0 shutout of Bluffton

HANOVER, Indiana - The Bluffton University women's soccer team capped off one of the best seasons in school history despite a 1-0 loss at Hanover College on Saturday, October 30, 2010. The Beavers finished with a record of 7-9-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Heartland Conference which was good for fifth place out of 10 schools. Hanover heads into the HCAC tourney with an 11-6-1 record, including a 7-2 mark in the conference.

Bluffton fired a pair shots in the first 12 minutes before Hanover went up 1-0 thanks to an unassisted OLIVIA SELM strike at the 16:55 mark. The Beavers continued to battle, putting up six shots in the first period, but the Panthers took their slim advantage into the break. Neither team capitalized on their chances in the final 45 minutes as Hanover held on for the 1-0 victory.

MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) and JESSICA RAMIREZ (Archbold) paced the Bluffton offense with two shots on goal apiece. MAGGIE ARMSTRONG (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) again kept the Beavers in the match, piling up 13 saves against the Panthers.

Hanover finished with 24 shots, compared to just six by the Beavers. The home team committed three more infractions (12-9), while forcing four more corner kicks (6-2).

Bluffton wrapped up its 2010 campaign with a 7-9-2 record, including a 4-4-1 mark in the HCAC, the best the Beavers have done since joining the conference.
