Moore and Whitmer named Second Team All-HCAC

November 9, 2010

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Sophomore MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) and freshman AIMEE WHITMER (Grand Rapids/Otsego) were recently named second team in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for women's soccer. It marked the second consecutive season that Moore was recognized by the Heartland Conference coaches.

Maddie Moore, who started 17 contests for the Beavers in 2010, tallied four goals and nine total points which both placed her second on the team. She fired 38 shots, placing 21 on frame, and added an assist for Bluffton. The sophomore captured her second All-HCAC honor in as many seasons, helping the Beavers to their best-ever record (4-4-1) in HCAC play while finishing in fifth place. Moore scored one goal to go along with her four assists a year ago, giving her five career tallies and five assists in two years for 15 total points.

Freshman Aimee Whitmer anchored a Bluffton defense that shattered the all-time low for goals allowed as the Beavers gave up only 21 scores, nine fewer than the previous record of 30 that was established just one season ago. She was also integral in helping Bluffton post a school-record five straight shutouts (seven total) and consecutive streak of shutout minutes at a school-record 558:49. Whitmer, who moved up front when the Beavers needed a late score, gave Bluffton a chance to put the ball in the net on any set piece from the opponents' half of the field as she converted three times on deep free kicks.

Bluffton finished the year with a 7-9-2 overall record, including a 4-4-1 mark in the HCAC which gave them fifth place in the conference. With no seniors on the 2010 roster and a talented core of underclassmen coming back, the Beavers will be ready to compete for a berth in the Heartland Conference tournament next season.
