RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team hit the road to Richmond, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 12, looking for a conference battle with the Earlham College Quakers. Despite an early deficit, the Beavers were able to come back and score a 2-1 win, earning their first victory in HCAC play this season (1-2). The Beavers are now 3-6 on the season. Earlham fell to 1-7-2 and 0-2-1 in conference play.

The scoring started when Quaker freshman midfielder ABIGAIL MCCULLOUGH took advantage of a pass from senior ANNIE FRODEMAN, giving the home team an early lead in the 12th minute. Despite many first half chances, the Beavers were unable to convert them into any goals as they went into the locker room trailing 1-0.

Less than five minutes into the second period, however, freshman forward KRISTEN TROPF (Findlay/Van Buren) was able to tie the match up at one with her team-best fifth goal of the season. Then, in the 75th minute, senior forward AIMEE WHITMER (Grand Rapids/Otsego) was able to score her fourth of the season, making the score 2-1 in favor of the visitors. Bluffton senior keeper Maggie Armstrong collected four saves in the victory as the Quakers outshot the visitors by a narrow 15-12 margin.

The Bluffton women will return home to the Sears Complex on Tuesday, Oct. 15 as Anderson University, who will come in with a record of 3-8-2 overall and 0-3 in conference play, makes the trip to Ohio. Match time is set for 4 p.m. and it kicks off a week with the Ravens as the men's soccer and volleyball teams host AU on Wednesday.
