BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie after one period of play with rival Defiance College, but the Yellow Jackets parlayed a pair of goals in the first 14 minutes of period two into a 2-1 victory over the Beavers on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013. Junior LINDSEY BUBNICKscored both Yellow Jacket goals in the second period. The win gives the Yellow Jackets a record of 6-10-2 (3-4-1 HCAC), while the Beavers fell to 5-9 (3-5 HCAC).

The goal was Whitmer's sixth of the season and was assisted by junior AMANDA HUNSBERGER (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview).

However, Bubnick was not finished scoring. She also netted her sixth tally of the season in the 59th minute. That goal gave Defiance a 2-1 lead which they would not relinquish. Bluffton outshot Defiance 13-3 in the final frame, but could not find the back of the net. Whitmer led the Beavers with eight shots. Defiance goalkeeper CLAIRE TURNER turned back Bluffton with 10 saves, helping the Yellow Jackets to a close win in the Rivalry Week lidlifter.
