October 25, 2017

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Manchester University on a cold Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017. Bluffton slipped to 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Heartland Conference, while the Spartans (1-14-1, 1-7 HCAC) picked up their first win of the season.

The visitors jumped on top early when senior BRITTANY HUFF (Union/Northmont) found freshman CAROLINE SCHUTZ (Rawson/Cory-Rawson) for a 1-0 lead at the 14:10 mark. That score held until Manchester's DELANIE JONES knotted it up in minute 74. MARANDA BIRMINGHAM put the home team on top 11 minutes later when she found the back of the net in minute 85. The home team made it stand up as the Spartans earned their first victory in the next-to-last match of the year.

Manchester finished with a 22-9 edge in shots, but just 6-3 on frame. The home team was whistled for three more fouls (9-6), while Bluffton forced two more corner kicks (3-1).

The Beavers will wrap up their 2017 campaign with a trip to Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 28. Bluffton takes on Transylvania at 1 p.m.
