Beavers drop 2-1 heartbreaker to Transy

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in Salzman Stadium. The Beavers were unable to make their 1-0 lead hold up as the Pioneers scored twice late in the second half for a 2-1 victory. The women slipped to 0-5-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in the Heartland Conference.

The first half was a tight one for both squads as they were searching for a goal. Senior Jules Frazier (Mapleton/Nova) had two saves for the Beavers in the first 45 minutes. Transylvania took six shots with eight corner kicks, while and the Beavers managed just two shot attempts.

In the second stanza, the action picked up considerably with the Beavers striking first when Maddie Huffman (Little Miami/Maineville) drilled a free kick from just outside the box in minute 59. The Pioneers quickly answered with one of their own at the 65:59 mark. With the game tied and the clock ticking, the visitors spoiled Senior Day with a penalty kick goal in the waning moments as Transy moved to 3-2 with the narrow 2-1 victory.

Transylvania took 13 shots and forced 16 corner kicks, compared to three shots and one corner kick for Bluffton. Fouls for the match were Bluffton 13 and the Pioneers four.

Frazier tallied four saves as all eight seniors were in the starting lineup on Saturday. Huffman finished with two shots and a goal on Senior Day.

The women will be back in action on Wednesday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m. when they welcome the Franklin College Grizzlies to Alumni Field.
