Bluffton downs Manchester for first win of season

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team traveled to Manchester University on a cold Wednesday, March 31, and returned home with its first victory of the season! Bluffton downed the Spartans 1-0, improving to 1-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Heartland Conference. Manchester saw its regular season come to a close with a 0-8 mark overall and in the HCAC.

After a first half that saw the teams combine for just four shots, senior Maddie Huffman (Maineville/Little Miami) cashed in with her second goal of the season and just the third score for Bluffton this year in minute 49. The defense held stout as Bluffton finished with a 9-3 edge in shots and 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Huffman fired off five shots for the victors, including four on frame and the only one that mattered! Emma White (St. Marys/Memorial) chipped in with two shots for the Beavers. Senior Jules Frazier (Nova/Mapleton) notched her first victory of 2021, fending off all three of the Spartan shots.

The Bluffton women will play for a final time this season next week, likely against Earlham College. Once the date, time and location have been set, the Beaver Women's Soccer schedule page will reflect that final competition.
