Bluffton swats rival Jackets in 3-0 shutout

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dominated rival Defiance from start to finish in a 3-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets on a cold Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022. Bluffton improved to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4 overall, while Defiance fell to 3-12 and 0-7 with their sixth loss to the Beavers in the last eight meetings.

Bluffton needed just 1:36 to take a lead the home team would never relinquish when Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) connected with Emma White (St. Marys/Memorial) for her second goal of the season. Kelsie Gladieux (Northwood/Lake) made it 2-0 in minute 11 when she hit from in close.

Sophomore Clara Matthews (Bluffton) lofted her first career tally over the Defiance keeper, giving the Beavers a 3-0 victory in their first-ever home match under the lights!

Bluffton finished with a ridiculous 34-4 edge in shots, including 19-2 on frame. The Beavers forced all three corner kicks and they were whistled for one more foul (5-4). McGinn fired six shots, while Jordan Jennings (Portsmouth/Wheelersburg) and Katelyn Burden (Sidney) added five shots apiece.

Sophomore Brielle Collier (Anna) picked up two saves before turning the net over to Marissa Blake (Hilliard/Hilliard Darby) who capped off the victory with 10 minutes between the pipes.

Bluffton hits the road for its final Saturday regular-season contest on October 22. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
