Otterbein hands Bluffton 6-1 setback

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team ran into a buzzsaw in the season opener as Otterbein dominated to the tune of a 6-1 victory on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023.

Otterbein fired away with a 41-3 advantage in shots, including 23-2 on frame, as the hosts left no doubt Friday under the lights. Clara Matthews (Bluffton) broke up the shutout when the junior capitalized midway through the second half.

Fellow junior Brielle Collier (Anna) was under fire from the gun, wrapping up 15 saves in the season opener. Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) and Alyssa Kester (Centerville) earned assists on the Matthews tally.

The Cardinals put up all 13 corner kicks in the match.

Bluffton will return to Allen County and gear up for its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 3. Kickoff with future HCAC member Berea is slated for 1 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
