Wittenberg takes down Bluffton 5-1

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team went up 1-0 less than two minutes in, but Wittenberg scored five unanswered en route to a convincing 5-1 victory on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023. Bluffton slipped to 2-4-1 overall, while the Tigers improved to 2-3-3.

Senior Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) connected with junior Madison Ellerbrock (Leipsic/Miller City) at the 1:40 mark, putting the visitors up 1-0. A Wittenberg tally in minute 12 knotted it at one apiece and that score held through the first 45 minutes.

The score remained deadlocked until there were less than 20 minutes to play when the floodgates opened. Wittenberg found the back of the net four times before the final buzzer sounded as the Tigers pulled away with a 5-1 victory.

Wittenberg finished with a 26-2 edge in shots, including 12-2 on frame. The home team forced eight more corner kicks (10-2) and was whistled for two more fouls (10-8).

Bluffton will cap off its non-conference slate with a short trip to Heidelberg in Tiffin on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
