Transy handles Bluffton 9-1 in HCAC opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team went up 1-0 at Lexington, but Transylvania scored nine straight goals for a 9-1 victory in the Heartland Conference lidlifter for both teams on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023.

Senior Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) put Bluffton on top just over seven minutes in, but Transylvania answered back with the equalizer three minutes later. Three more Pioneer tallies over the next seven minutes had the home team firmly in control before the match was 20 minutes old.

A Transylvania goal in minute 38 made it 5-1 at the half. The Pioneers hit paydirt four times in the second half on the way to a convincing 9-1 victory Wednesday night under the lights.

The Pioneers forged a 17-4 advantage in total shots, including 11-2 on frame. They also forced six of the seven corner kicks. Transy was called for five more fouls (6-1).

Mya Vernon (Toledo/Central Catholic) led the Beavers with two shots, one on frame.

Bluffton will cap off its stretch of five straight road tussles when the Beavers travel to Anderson University for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Ravens on Saturday, Sept. 30.
