Hammer named HCAC Player of the Week

BLUFFTON , OHIO - Junior JANA HAMMER (Hamler, Ohio/Patrick Henry) has been named player of the week for the Heartland Conference in women's track for the week ending April 11, 2004 .Jana Hammer

Hammer helped lead the Beavers to a first place finish out of five teams at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday by either breaking or tying the Bluffton College school record in her three first-place finishes.

"It's nice to see Jana get recognized for what is arguably the best day a female sprinter has ever had at Bluffton College," head coach Nate Smith said. "To run three school records in one day is an amazing feat. I'm glad to see her get recognition for all the hard work she has put in this season."

She tied her own school record in winning the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.77, then broke the school record in the 200 meter dash with her winning time of 26.28. She also ran a strong leg on Bluffton's winning 4x100 meter relay, which also set a new school record with their time of 50.33 (ranks first in the HCAC).

The Beavers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for the All-Ohio track meet.
