Five school records were either broken or tied this weekend, as the Bluffton track and field teams competed at the Division III All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. In the midst of these performances were three top-3 performances for the Beavers, earning six Bluffton athletes All-Ohio status.
Once again highlighting the men's performances was Clint Dillon, who took second in a tough field, improving his provisional national qualifying mark in the vault to 15' 9". That vault broke Dillon's own school record by nearly seven inches. Colby Bright also had a standout weekend for Bluffton, placing third in the long jump with a best jump of 21' 9". Bright also qualified for the finals in the 100 meter dash, taking eighth overall, and finished ninth in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 23.00. Other men who placed in the championships for the Beavers were Jeremy King, who took sixth in the high jump, and Shandon North, who took eighth in the 400 meters.
The Bluffton women saw four new school records set at the meet, beginning with a new triple jump standard, courtesy of freshman Kimleeta Davis. Davis placed eighth in the triple jump with her top jump of 34 feet, then placed seventh in the long jump with a season-best jump of 16' 3.5". Meanwhile, the four Bluffton women to earn All-Ohio status were the Beavers' 4x100 meter relay team. The team of Cindy Allan, Jana Hammer, Rita Muether, and Amanda Habegger placed second in the meet with a new school-record time of 50.03. Habegger also tied the school record in the pole vault, with her clearance at 8' 6". She also placed ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.42). Hammer, meanwhile, placed in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, placing fourth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters. Muether also placed in the 200 meters, taking seventh. Another school record broken for the Beavers happened in the first event of Saturday morning, when Michele Bailey bested her own record from last season, with a personal-best throw of 127' 6".
The Beavers' regular-season culminates this next weekend as the team travels to Manchester for the HCAC Championships.
