Men place 2nd, women place 3rd at HCAC champs; Kevin Davis named men's athlete-of-the-year

Hanover, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's and women's track and field team competed in the Heartland Conference Championships on April 30. Both the men and the women were very successful as the men placed second and the women finished third in the meet.

Freshman Kevin Davis The Bluffton men's team was able to capture five first place finishes in the meet. Freshman KEVIN DAVIS (Albion, Mich./Albion) had a victorious meet as he placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.28. Davis also placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.01 and captured first place in the long jump with a jump of 21'11''. For his efforts, Davis was named freshman-of-the-year and men's track athlete-of-the-year. Sophomore SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion) placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.69. Sophomore RICKY REUCHER (Toledo/Central Catholic) finished first in the high jump with a jump of 6'4''.

Other leaders for the men was junior DAN ROSEBROCK (Napoleon/Napoleon) who finished third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:06.03. Rosebrock broke the Bluffton school record in the 1500 run that was set back in 1966. In the 400 meter hurdles senior TROY BAUMER(Geneva, Ind./South Adams) placed third with a time of 56.11.

Leading the women was junior RITA MUETHER (Celina/Celina) who placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.03. In the 400 meter hurdles senior AMANDA HABEGGER(Berne, Ind./South Adams) finished first with a time of 1:06.98. Habegger placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.39.

Senior JANA HAMMER (Hamler/Patrick Henry) finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.90. Hammer also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.40. In the triple jump sophomore CINDY ALLAN (Fayette/Archbold) placed second with a jump of 32'6.50''. Freshman SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) placed third in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 39:58.23. Humphrey broke her own school record in the event.

Bluffton will be back in action at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College on May 12-13.
