Beavers compete at Rose-Hulman Early Bird Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana - This past weekend the Bluffton men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Rose-Hulman for the Early Bird Meet. Bluffton had five event winners combined for the men and women in a meet that was unscored.

Senior RITA MUETHER (Celina/Celina) won the 200m with a time of 28.77, she also finished third running the 400m in 1:04.00.  Freshman KARYN DAVIS (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) was one of the top performers at the meet as she won the hammer throw with a toss of 100' 4", and placed third in the shot put and the discus with throws of 33' 4.75" and 88' 6". Senior KIRSTIE DRAVENSTOTT (Smithville/Smithville) finished second in the high jump with her leap of 4' 9.75". Sophomore SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) continued to rewrite the record books as she ran a 19:29.00 in the 5000m. Humphrey was followed closely by the event's previous record holder, senior JENNIFER CREAMER (Westerville/Westerville South), who also bettered the previous record, finishing in 19:30.60.

On the men's side, senior DAN ROSEBROCK (Napoleon/Napoleon) and junior SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion) carried their indoor success over into the outdoor season. Rosebrock pulled away from the rest of the field in the 1500m to win the race in 4:09.92. North used a strong finish to carry himself to victory in the 400m with a time of 50.58. Sophomore REX BROWN (Wauseon/Pettisville) started his outdoor season with a bang as he won the javelin with a toss of 162' 7" as well as finishing runner up in the discus with a toss of 121' 7".  The men's 4x400 team of Rosebrock, North, junior JOHNNY ICHRIST (Toledo/Whitmer), and sophomore TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer) finished second with a time of 3:31.25.

The Beavers return to action next Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Defiance College's Dick Small Invitational.
