Bluffton fares well at All-Ohio Championships

DELWARE, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University for the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, April 15, 2006, to compete against the best athletes in the state. 

Senior RITA MUETHER (Celina/Celina) notched the highest finish for the Beavers as she placed second in the 200m with a time of 25.93 seconds, only .04 seconds behind the winner, which broke her own school record of 25.95 set in 2004. She also finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.45. Sophomore SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) ran her way to a seventh place finish in the 10,000m with a time of 41:22.85. Bluffton posted a good showing in the field events as well, placing three athletes in the top ten in their respective events. Freshman KARYN DAVIS (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 37' 05.75". She also finished in ninth place in the hammer competition with a throw of 108' 07". Senior KIRSTIE DRAVENSTOTT (Smithville/Smithville) leaped her way to a tenth place finish in the high jump with a height of 5'1". Freshman ASHLEY SMITH(Delta/Delta) took home a 16th place finish in the triple jump; Smith sported a jump of 28' 6.5". 

On the men's side, junior SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion) had the best finish for Bluffton as he placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 49.65. Senior COLBY BRIGHT (Galion/Galion) came in right behind North in the 400m with a time of 49.77 to finish in fourth place. Bright also fared well in the 200m as he placed 12th with a time of 22.82. The men's 4x400m team of Bright, North, senior DAN ROSEBROCK (Napoleon/Napoleon) and junior JOHNNY ICHRIST(Toledo/Whitmer) sped their way to an eighth place finish with a time of 3:25.14. Sophomore REX BROWN (Wauseon/Pettisville) led the way in the field events for the men with a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 165' 04" and a 15th place finish in the discus with a mark of 118' 09". 

The Beavers return to action next Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Ohio Northern University's Joe Banks Invitational.
