Three Beavers qualify for All-Ohio Championships

February 7, 2007

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University indoor track and field program recently had three standout athletes qualify to compete in the All-Ohio Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Otterbein College. The All-Ohio meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

On the women's side, junior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) and sophomore ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta) both put up times that have them primed to perform well against the best Division III athletes in Ohio. Humphrey will compete in the 5000 meters while Smith runs in the 400 meters.

Senior SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion) was the lone Beaver on the men's squad to qualify for the Championships. He currently has the third best time among Division III sprinters in the 400 meters, his signature event.

To qualify for the All-Ohio Championships, a Division III track athlete must have one of the top 16 times in an event while a field athlete needs to be one of the top 12 in his/her event.

The Bluffton University track and field team will compete at the Ohio Northern Series Meet on Friday, February 9, and then it will travel to Otterbein on Saturday to support Humphrey, Smith and North in their quest to take home top honors in the All-Ohio Championships.
