Men and Women place sixth at ONU Series Meet

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams traveled to Ohio Northern University on Friday, February 9, 2007, to compete in Series Meet #3. Although the teams were without the services of SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusk/Upper Sandusky), ASHLEY SMITH(Delta/Delta) and SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion), who will be running at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, February 10, the Beavers picked up points in both the men's and women's events on Friday night.

Leading the women in the sprinting events was SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson), who tallied six points. She picked up the Beavers' top finish of the night, a fifth place showing in the 300 meters with a time of 49.38 seconds. Binkley also placed seventh in the 55 meters, crossing the line in 8.23 seconds.

Sophomore KARYN DAVIS (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) paced Bluffton in the field events, placing sixth in the weight throw (10.66 meters) and seventh in the shot put (10.38 meters).

BREE FETTERMAN and BROOKE HABRUN both garnered seventh place in their respective events on Friday. Fetterman ran a 21:46.96 in the 5000 meters while Habrun finished the 800 meters in 3:03.27.

On the men's side, freshman JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) scored seven of the Beavers' 14 points. He placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.46 meters and sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.35 meters.

In the 500 meters, JOHNNY ICHRIST (Toledo/Whitmer) brought home a sixth place finish with a time of 1:13.90, good for three points.

Freshman sprinter COLLIN WAGNER (Pettisville/Pettisville) picked up a pair of eighth place showings for the Beavers, a 2:09.97 in the 800 meters and a 39.95 in the 300 meters.

TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer) and HILLARY SHILOSIO (Eldoret, Kenya) also placed eighth in their respective events at Ohio Northern. Fairchild finished the 1000 meters in 2:53.03 while Shilosio ran the 5000 meters in 17:45.67.

Humphrey, North and Smith will compete at the All-Ohio Championships (Otterbein) on Saturday, February 10. The entire squad will return to action on Friday, February 16, 2007, at the next ONU Friday Night Series Meet.
