Beavers compete at ONU Series Meet

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team traveled to Ada, Ohio, on February 16, 2007, to compete in the latest installment of the Friday Night Series Meet on the campus of Ohio Northern University. The men placed seventh while the women came in sixth out of eight squads.

Leading the men's team with a first place finish in the 300 meters was senior sprinterSHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion). His time of 36.58 seconds broke Bluffton's school record of 36.82 set by Colby Bright in 2006.

Freshman JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) did his damage in the field events, racking up a total of eight points for the Beavers. Fisher placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.62 meters (47-11.75). He also picked up three points with his sixth place weight throw of 13.32 meters (43-08.50). Fisher's toss in the weight throw shattered the previous school record of 41-05.00 which was set in 2004 by standout thrower Steve Myers.

Tallying six points in the distance events was HILLARY SHILOSIO (Eldoret, Kenya). Shilosio ran a 4:52.94 mile for fourth place and five points while also placing eighth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:55.88.

The women were paced by 12 points from ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta). The sophomore sprinter brought home two fourth place finishes for the Beavers with times of 28.67 in the 200 meters and 1:24.24 in the 500 meters. She also picked up two points with a long jump of 4.47 meters (14-08). Smith, one of three Beavers to break school records at the Friday Night Series Meet, shaved more than a second off Amanda Habegger's 2005 time of 1:25.65 in the 500 meters.

BREE FETTERMAN (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) locked up four points with a fifth place showing in the 5,000 meters. Fetterman crossed the line in 2:20.93.

Freshman SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory Rawson) finished the 200 meters in 30.10 for sixth place while KARYN DAVIS (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) tallied two points with her shot put of 10.64 meters (34-11.00).

The Beavers will close their 2007 indoor season on February 23, when they return to Ohio Northern for the next Friday Night Series Meet in Ada, Ohio.
