Beavers compete at 6th ONU Series Meet

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team made the short trip to Ohio Northern for the Friday Night Series Meet #5 on Friday, February 23, bringing the 2007 indoor season to a close. The men placed sixth out of 10 teams with 26 points, while the women finished fifth out of six teams with 30 points.

Five women picked up points in the meet, led by 13 from sophomore ASHLEY SMITH(Delta/Delta). Smith placed third in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters with times of 28.64 and 1:06.64, respectively. In the long jump, Smith finished eighth with her leap of 4.52 meters (14-10.00).

Junior standout SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) brought home the best finish on the women's side, a second place showing in the 5,000 meters (19:30.40).

Right behind Smith in the 400 meters was freshman SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) who crossed the line in 30.17 seconds for fourth place and five points.

Freshman BROOKE HABRUN (Magnolia/Sandy Valley) ran a 4:03.56 in the 1,000 meters for sixth place and BREE FETTERMAN (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) picked up a point with her eighth place finish in the 5,000 meters (21:15.52).

On the men's side, senior SHANDON NORTH (Galion/Galion) took second in the 400 meters with his time of 51.52 seconds, picking up eight points in the process. 

The 4x400 squad finished first with a time of 3:35.72, adding 10 points to the men's totals for the meet.

The only Beaver scoring points in the field events was freshman thrower JASON FISHER(Rockford/Parkway). He placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.49 meters (44-03.25), garnering five points. Fisher also finished eighth in the weight throw with a hurl of 12.65 meters (41-06.00).

Senior JOHNNY ICHRIST (Toledo/Whitmer) also picked up points in the 400 meters, running a 54.33 for seventh place and two points.

The Bluffton University track and field team will now shift its preparation to the outside as the Beavers will open their outdoor season on Saturday, March 17, at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invite.
