Beavers compete in Friday Night Series Meet #3 at ONU

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team made the short trip to Ohio Northern on February 8, 2008, to compete in the Friday Night Series Meet #3. Both the men and women placed ninth out of nine teams at the meet.

Picking up the lone first place finish at Ohio Northern was the women's distance medley which consisted of senior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky), junior ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta), sophomore SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) and freshman MEGAN KOCH (Elida/Elida). The medley team earned 10 points with a combined finishing time of 14:27.38. Humphrey and Smith both picked up three points each in their respective individual events. Smith placed 6th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.03, while Humphrey claimed 6th place in the 3,000 meter run (11:35.54).

Pacing the men was sophomore JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) with a sixth place finish in the shot put (46-11.75) for three points. BRIAN TIMPE (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York) and ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion-Franklin) earned one point apiece as Timpe placed 8th in the 1,000 meters (2:46.45) and Johnson took home 8th in the 200 meters (24.31).

Racking up six points with a third place showing was the 4x200 meter relay team (1:41.75) which included REX BROWN (Wauseon/Pettisville), ZACH KERBER (Lima/Elida), STEVE HAVENS (Fremont/Lakota) and Robert Johnson. The 4x400 meter relay squad also added a point following its 9th place finish (3:40.45). Members of the 4x400 team included TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer), BEN ALTHAUS (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Rex Brown and COLLIN WAGNER (Pettisville/Pettisville).

Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, February 16, 2008, when the Beavers travel to Rose-Hulman for the Hoosier-Buckeye Meet. The contest is slated to start at 2 p.m.
