Ashley Smith leads Beavers at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University indoor track and field teams sent a few individuals to Ohio Northern for the final Friday Night Series Meet on February 29, 2008. Although the Beavers were officially starting spring break, several Bluffton athletes went to Ada for one final indoor competition. The women placed sixth out of seven teams, while the men finished eighth out of eight participating squads.

Junior ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta) led the Beavers with 17 points individually, and she was also a  member of the third place 4x200 meter relay team (1:56.50) which picked up six more points. Smith took second in the 400 meters (1:04.90), third in the 200 meters (28.72), seventh in the high jump (4-06.00) and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 15-01.25. Crossing the 200 meter finish line just ahead of Smith was freshman MEGAN KOCH (Elida/Elida) who placed second with a time of 28.45 seconds. Koch and Smith were joined on the third place relay by sophomores SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) and MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green).

Pacing the men with all five of their points was freshman MIKE TIMPE (Swanton/Swanton). Timpe placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.39 seconds and he finished eighth in the triple jump (34-04.00).

The Beavers' indoor season is now complete. Bluffton will open its 2008 outdoor campaign on Friday, March 21, when the Beavers travel to Defiance College for the Dick Small Invitational.
