Men place third at Bluffton Invitational

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University hosted the 2008 Beaver Invitational on Saturday, March 29. The women's team scored 52.50 points to finish fifth out of seven teams. The men combined to score 138 points which was good for a third place finish out of five teams.

In the 400 meter dash, ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta) took a fourth place finish to earn five points with a time of 1:03.74. SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:45.75 which broke her own school record in the event.

Bluffton's women's 4x100 meter relay team which included MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green), SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory Rawson), MEGHAN KOCH (Elida/Elida) and Ashley Smith finished sixth in their event, posting a time of 53.95. Bluffton's 4x400 meter relay team (Koch, Binkley, Smith and Humphrey) ran a time of 4:37.46 which placed them sixth overall for five more points.

Ashley Smith also found success in the long jump, finishing second with a distance of 4.64 meters. Freshman Megan Koch placed eighth the high jump with a distance of 1.35 meters.

PAIGE CORESSEL (Wauseon/Wauseon) took fourth place in the javelin, scoring five points with a throw of 24.33 meters. Meghan Forquer finished sixth in the same event with a throw of 22.91 meters.

On the men's side, sophomore ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion-Franklin) finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.60. Senior REX BROWN (Wauseon/Pettisville) took second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.09.

COLLIN WAGNER (Pettisville/Pettisville) was victorious in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.68.

Rob Johnson placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters. In the men's triple jump, Bluffton's MIKE TIMPE (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York) finished fifth with a combined distance of 10.12 meters.

Senior MIKE KOCH (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:32.34. The Bluffton 4x100 meter relay team, which included STEVE HAVENS (Fremont/Lakota), Mike Timpe, Rex Brown and Rob Johnson, placed fourth in the event with a time of 47.32. Bluffton's 4x400 meter relay team of Rex Brown, Collin Wagner,BEN ALTHAUS (Delhi, NY/Delhi) and TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer) took second place in their event, clocking in at a time of 3:32.98.

JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) placed first in the men's shot put with a toss of 13.87 meters. Freshman JARED AUER (Curtice/Genoa Local) took fourth place in the shot put, and teammate AARON WLADISCHKIN (Sterling Heights, Mich/Sterling Hts.) finished fifth.

Jason Fisher continued his winning ways in the discus with a distance of 42.96 meters. Rex Brown placed third in the same event with a throw of 37.74 meters. Fisher also took second place in the hammer throw (43.48 meters). 

In the javelin, Bluffton took the top two places. Rex Brown finished first and set a new personal record with a distance of 52.84 meters and Jason Fisher placed second with a throw of 49.12 meters.

The track and field team returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when the Beavers travel to Ohio Wesleyan for the Marv Frye Invite.
