Beavers compete at Mary Frye Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams traveled just north of Columbus to Ohio Wesleyan University to compete in the Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The men placed 12th of 13 squads while the women finished 13th against some of the best competition in the state.

Sophomore thrower JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) had an outstanding day for the Beavers, racking up 25 points to lead the Bluffton men. He was victorious in the hammer with a winning throw of 147-00 feet for 10 points. Fisher picked up a second place finish in the discus (145-08) and placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 46-07.25. Fisher's seventh place showing in the javelin (158-05) rounded out his scoring with two more points.

Bluffton senior REX BROWN (Wauseon/Pettisville) picked up a sixth place finish in the javelin, just ahead of Fisher, with a throw of 159-09 feet. The Beavers placed eighth in the 4X100 meter relay (45.92). Members of the 4X100 meter squad were STEVE HAVENS (Fremont/Lakota), Rex Brown, MIKE TIMPE (Swanton/Swanton), and ROB JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion Franklin). Johnson also finished seventh in the 200 meter dash (23.09)

Pacing the women's team was senior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) who finished fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:18.74 and picked up five points for the Bluffton women's track team. Humphrey broke her own school record in the 5000 meters.

Junior ASHLEY SMITH (Delta/Delta) set a new personal record in the 200 meter dash (27.15) as well as in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.76. Right on Smith's heels in the 200 meters was freshman MEGAN KOCH (Elida/Elida) who crossed the line in 28.95 seconds for a new personal record. Koch also set another PR in the 400 meter dash (1:03.83).

The track and field teams return to action when Bluffton competes at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Ohio Wesleyan University.
