Bluffton competes at Oberlin College

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's and women's track and field teams continued their indoor season when they traveled to Oberlin College for the Crimson and Gold Invitational on Friday, February 6, 2009. The Beavers were one of eight teams that participated in the invitational.

In the men's 400 meter dash, Bluffton's KEVIN HICKMAN (Centerburg) turned in a time of 58.36. Junior SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory Rawson) ran a time of 2:49.88 in the women's 800 meter run. In the men's 800 meter run, MICHAEL TIMPE (Swanton) finished with a time of 2:11.82 and junior BEN SIEBERT (Celina) was right on his heels, completing the race in 2:15.31.

Three sprinters represented Bluffton in the women's 200 meter dash. Senior ASHLEY SMITH(Delta/Pike-Delta-York) finished with a time of 30.26. JENN SANDY (Defiance/Ayersville) finished with a time of 31.23 and freshman KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) ran a time of 31.29. ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion Franklin) placed second in the men's 200 meter dash with a time of 23.13.

Ashley Smith registered a leap that measured 15-06.25 in the women's long jump, which placed her fourth out of nine competitors. Michael Timpe reached a height of 5-05.00 in the men's high jump, taking eighth place.

In the women's shot put KAYLA PICKERING (Jamestown/Greenview) had a throw of 34-06.75 to come in sixth place, just edging teammate KARYN DAVIS (Liberty Center) who placed seventh with a toss of 34-6.25. Junior JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) paced the Bluffton men with a second place throw in the shot put (45-06.25).

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, February 14, when they travel to the All-Ohio indoor meet at Otterbein College. The competition is slated to start at 10 a.m.
