Beavers take 6th at initial Friday Night Series Meet

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams opened their 2010 indoor campaigns on Friday, January 15, in the Friday Night Series Meet #1 at Ohio Northern. Competing against a talented group of larger schools that included Huntington University, the University of Findlay and Indiana Tech, the men placed sixth and the women finished sixth. The University of Findlay finished first on the men's side while the host Polar Bears claimed victory on the women's side.

Leading the men with 13 points was senior Jason Fisher (Rockford/Parkway), who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals in the weight throw while shattering his own school record by six feet with a throw of 55-06.25. His record-setting throw placed him second and earned the team eight points. In addition, Fisher took fourth in the shot put (49-03.50). Also leading the Beavers was senior Rob Johnson (Columbus/Marion-Franklin) who placed first in the 60 meter dash (7.00), scoring 10 points.

Leading the Bluffton women was freshman Elizabeth Brown (Edon) who placed second in the 500 meters (1:34.84), scoring eight points, while senior Sarah Binkley (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) picked up five points by placing fourth in the 400 meters (1:13.84).

Pacing the Beavers in the field events was sophomore Megan Neal (Arlington) who placed fourth in the weight throw (38-08.75) and fifth in the shot put (32-10.25), scoring nine points for the team. Sophomore Allison Trent (Orrville/Smithville) garnered sixth place in the weight throw (30-03.00) and seventh in shot put (28-01.50) for a total of five points. Rounding out the field events was freshman Delylah Kubitz (Ashtabula/Edgewood) who placed sixth in shot put (32-07.75) and eighth in the weight throw (27-00.00), scoring four points for the Beavers.

The Bluffton indoor track and field season continues on Friday, January 22, 2010, when the Beavers make the short trek up Interstate 75 to compete at the University of Findlay. The meet is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.
