Bluffton men and women place third at Dick Small Invite

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams competed at the Dick Small Invitational hosted by Defiance College on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Both the men and women placed third overall, while Manchester College won on the women's side and Defiance won on the men's.

Leading the way on the men's side were seniors JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway) and ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion Franklin). Fisher took first in the shot put (50-07.50) and in hammer throw (169-04) and he also placed second in the discus (143-09). Johnson was victorious in the 100m dash (10.86) and in the 200m dash (22.71).
 
Also scoring for the Beavers were junior MICHAEL TIMPE (Swanton), who placed third in the triple jump (35-09.25) and seventh in the 800m (2:11.0); sophomore KEVIN HICKMAN(Centerburg), who placed fourth in the 200m dash (24.61) and eighth in the 400m dash (55.69); sophomore ANDREW CHAFFEE (Clarktson, Mich./Clarkston), who placed fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:07.52); senior BEN SIEBERT (Celina), who took eighth in the 1500m (4:48.16); and sophomore BRIAN HECKATHORN (Hartville/Lake), who placed sixth in shot put (39-04.50) and seventh in the hammer throw (104-03).
 
Leading the Bluffton women was freshman DELYAH KUBITZ (Ashtabula/Edgewood), who placed first in the discus (107-10), sixth in shot put (28-08.50), and seventh in the hammer throw (91-06). Sophomore MEGAN NEAL (Arlington) won the hammer throw (131-00) and took fifth in the shot put (29-01). The women's 4x100m relay team of junior MEGAN KOCH (Elida), freshman ELIZABETH BROWN (Edon), freshman KIRSTEN EGTS (Rawson/Cory-Rawson) and senior DONELLE PARKER (Painesville/Thomas W. Harvey) placed second with a time of 56.58. Koch also came in second in the 400m dash (1:08.04) and third in the 200m dash (28.79). Egts placed third in the 100m dash (14.32), Brown placed third in the 400m dash (1:11.37) while Parker placed fourth in the 100m dash (14.4) and high jump (4-07.75) and eighth in the 200m dash (31.03).
 
Also scoring for the women was sophomore ALLISON TRENT (Orrville/Smithville) who placed second in discus (90-01) and in hammer throw (120-01) and fourth in shot put (29-09.50). Sophomore HEATHER SMITH (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) placed third in the 800m (2:57.24) and fourth in the 1500m (5:38.44). Senior STEPHANIE JANKOV (Wooster) crossed the line fourth in the 800m (2:58.84) and eighth in 1500m (6:12.86). ALISON JANZEN (Whitewater, Kansas/Remington) placed third in the 5000m (22:09.17) while fellow freshman KATY HEFFNER (Troy) placed fourth in the 5000m (23:32.87).
 
The Beavers return to action on Saturday, March 27, when they travel to Cedarville for the Yellow Jacket Open. The meet is slated to start at 10:30 a.m.
